Design Challenge:
This kitchen was never designed to serve as a functional space. It lacked counter space, storage, sufficient lighting and well-organized appliances. It also had a doorway to the master bathroom right in the middle of its main wall.
Design Solution: The bathroom doorway was closed off, which resulted in the opportunity for more counter space, continuous cabinets and a new sink location. Box cabinets provide the desired amount of storage, as well as custom upgrades such as reeded glass door fronts and a small wine display. The homeowner’s Depression glass collection served as the inspiration for the color of the subway tile backsplash. Black granite countertops were chosen to add drama, as was the vintage chandelier. The look and function of the space was completed with energy efficient stainless steel appliances.
