Timeless Tudor

Design Challenge:
This poor kitchen was dreadfully dysfunctional. The work triangle simply did not work. The cabinets, countertops, and appliances were all falling apart. Storage was practically nonexistent and the pantry had a toilet in it (see Small Surprise under Bathrooms)!

Design Solution:
As always with kitchens, functionality was addressed first. The homeowners are avid cooks and needed a space that provided them with multiple work stations, ample storage, sizeable appliances, effective lighting, and last but not least, an aesthetic that reflected who they are as a family.

After much consideration, the homeowners decided to bump out the east wall of their existing kitchen, thus squaring off the back end of their home. Adding this extra space allowed us to create a functional work triangle centered on their state-of-the-art, stainless steel appliances. Custom cabinets were designed with varying heights, depths and door fronts to help move your eye through the space. They were also stained to match the original 1920s dining room built-in cabinets just around the corner. Granite countertops, hand-crafted, glass mosaic tile and vintage lighting provide glitz and glamour to the space. The kitchen is cook’s dream!
